Ugly? Maybe. Fast? Yes. Economical? Definitely!

This has to be by far one of the best vehicles we have tested here at NZ On Cars. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is absolutely loaded with all kinds of techy gadgets, roomy, comfortable, and crazy quick for what is basically a family sized sedan. Sure, the looks take some getting used to, and many out there quite simply cannot get past that. That is their loss. To be fair I wasn’t too crazy on the looks myself but after the first few days it really grew on me. It’s different, and that’s a good thing, it stands out from all the mundane average three-box sedan shapes that has been the staple design of family sedans for many decades. The shape of the IONIQ 6 is more than just a quirky, droopy shape, it has an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.22, which is basically a scientific way of saying it can slip through the air more efficiently than a greasy eel.

The amount of technology in the IONIQ 6 is quite simply insane, from the fully customisable instrument cluster and infotainment screens to the 68,000, yes, 68,000 colour combinations for the ambient lighting, and the 230volt power outlet under the rear seats if you want to do your nails while you’re out and about (see the video regarding that!) this car has it all. Then there’s the performance. The AWD Limited will hit the open road speed limit in just 5.1 seconds and send shivers through your body while it does it. The way it delivers that power and grips the road with its massive 245/40 20-inch Pirelli rubber is quite simply insane!

See the video below for more info on the stunning Hyundai IONIQ 6. We had some dramas with the weather on the day we had available to us for filming. We parked up in one location that was perfect… until a mini cyclone decided to roll in and spoil our plans! By the time the weather cleared we were running out of daylight so had to rush a bit in the end. Sadly we had plans to do a lot more with the IONIQ 6, but 2023’s weather just wasn’t on our side. I tried to cover everything I could there, but this car has so much to give. Feel free to click through to YouTube hit like and subscribe. Check out our socials as well.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 range starts with the 53kWh two-wheel drive at $77,990, going all the way up to the incredible 77.4kWh Limited AWD rocket (as tested) at $124,990. While this may seem like a lot of money, believe me when I say it is worth every penny and you get a hell of a lot of car for that. And one hell of a smile on you and your passengers face when you mash that accelerator to the floor! Its not surprising that the IONIQ 6 has won multiple awards worldwide, including the coveted World Car of the Year for 2023, as well as the World Electric Vehicle award and the World Car Design of the Year. Simply stunning.
