Not Your Average Classic Car Auction.

Posted: March 12, 2011 in All, Events

On Tuesday the 22nd of March a number of very rare cars, motorcycles and automotive memorabilia goes up for auction by Webb’s, New Zealand’s Premier Auction House. Everything from very historic race cars to old oil and motoring signs.

The highlight of the auction has to be the stunning Ferrari Lusso 250. Only 350 of these cars were built between January 1963 and August 1964, of that only 23 were produced in right hand drive, 21 of those still survive. This particular example was restored by Auto Restorations and has an amazing 17,100 original miles. Looking at this car you’d be forgiven for thinking you are standing in a Ferrari showroom in 1963, every millimetre of this car is perfect, not a mark on it which is what you’d expect I guess with an estimated auction price of between 1.1 and 1.4 million dollars. Can’t help thinking with a price tag like that it could very well attract overseas interest and eventually leave our shores.

At the other end of the scale there are a couple of early Mini’s, a 1938 MG Series TA project, GT3 Porsche. Some very historic racers such as the Dan Gurney 1979/80 Indy car, Lola Can-Am car tamed for road use, 1931 Bugatti T54 special, 1992 Dallara Mugen F3000 raced by kiwi race legend Ken Smith and my personal favourite a 1987 Audi Quattro, New Zealand new with low k’s for an estimated price of between $38,000 and $48,000.

As I mentioned above there are some very interesting motorcycles up for grabs here too but this is NZ On Cars not NZ On Cars and Bicycles.

If you are looking for some very nice old signs for your garage or games room, a scary ride on an old bike or have space in your garage for a million dollar Ferrari head along to Shed 5, Top deck, Wellesley Street, Auckland, take a look and be there for the auction on the 22nd at 6pm. Will post the results of the auction here.
